Viewing Family Records
Family record structure
Each family record is structured in the following order:
- The family name
- The current incumbent
- His biography and family
- The Blazen, or description of the Coat of Arms, which is included at the top of each record with the image
- The full lineage
- Seat
- Clubs
- Education
- Estate
- Property
- Residence
- Tartans
Not all of the above information is relevant for each record. In these cases, that section is omitted.
Lineage
The full lineage of the family starts with the earliest known head of the family and working towards the current date. Each family member’s children (indicated by issue) are numbered and listed by sons then daughters, as the majority of family title can only descend to males.
Each generation within the lineage is colour coded and indented for easier reading (see below).
Abbreviations are used frequently to save time, such as m. and d.

A dot before an individual indicates they are alive, and a cross next to the name indicates they are next in line to inherit that title.
Text colour and indentation
To help users to quickly access the family records, each generation is indented and has been colour coded, as follows:
Generation 1
Generation 2
Generation 3
Etc….
Buttons along the top of the page
The full record for each family includes a top tool bar with the following functions:
Top - Takes you to the top of the page.
First Record, Prev Record and Next Record - Link to records in the list of search results.
Print - Print the family record.
