GORDON HIGHLANDERS

The Gordon Highlanders was established in 1794 by the 4th Duke of Gordon and its recruits were from the North East of Scotland. Made up primarily of foot soldiers it was designated the '92nd Regiment of Foot' in 1798 and is now generally known by this name.

The Gordon Highlanders have played a part in many high profile conflicts, including Waterloo, Peninsular War in Spain, First World War and the Second World War. In the First World War 50,000 Gordons were involved in the British force and 27,000 were killed or wounded.

In 1994 the Gordon Highlanders were amalgamated with the 'Highlanders' and today form part of the regiment for the North of Scotland.
