CRIMEAN WAR

The Crimean War took place between 1854 and 1856 and was fought primarily on the Crimean Peninsula between the forces of Russia, Britain, France and Turkey.

The immediate cause of the war was a dispute between France and Russia over the holy places in Palestine. However the political climate at this time was very tentative and each party had their own underlying reasons for war.

Many of the family records in the Burke's Peerage and Gentry database detail individuals who fought or who had connections with the Crimean War.
