CORONATION

The term coronation means "the act or cermony of crowning a monarch."

The last coronation of a monarch took place on Tuesday, 2 June 1953 and was the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The ceremony took place at Westminister Abbey and the Queen travelled to the Abbey in the Gold State Coach, a journey she was to repeat in the coach some fifty years later for her Golden Jubilee.

Further information on the events of the day can be found at the British Monarchy web site.
