BATTLE OF CULLODEN

The Battle of Culloden was a turning point in history, after that day a great many lives would change and today the effects of that day can still be seen. The battle of the 16th April 1746 was followed by the highland clearances and for the next 150 years there occured a mass migration of highlanders to countries including the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere. On arrival in these new worlds, immigrants named areas after their home countries, towns and villages, and today these names still exist today.

The events of the 16th of April have also left their mark on the Burke's Peerage and Gentry family records, with a great many records containing colourful details of the events of the Jacobite uprisings.
