SCOTLAND - CAERLAVEROCK CASTLE

Caerlaverock stands on the Solway Firth surrounded by a double moat. It was built by the Maxwell family around 1270. In 1300 the castle was besieged by Edward I and was also to feature in the Anglo-Saxon conflicts of the 16th Century and the Civil War of 1640. The castle has laid in ruins since 1640 and is today cared for by Historic Scotland.
