WALES - ABERGAVENNY CASTLE

Abergavenny Castle dates from around 1087 and was firstly a wooden structure. From 1190 the Normans began rebuilding the castle in stone, however much of what exists today was built in the 13th and 14th centuries. The castle has seen many attacks and blood shed in its life time and today all of the structure that remains are two towers and a gate with a large barbican.

Abergavenny is open to the public and the 19th century hunting lodge has been restored and is home to the Abergavenny Museum.
